In China, avoid traveling during the popular times: Spring Festival, Summer, and the entire first week of October. That is just my advice. I know most people travel during the summer when kids are out of school, but if you don't have children living at home, September or maybe October at the latest. Watch the weather. If it rains, some of the paths around the mountains can be slippery and dangerous since there are no handrails, and some are steep.
