Salah Moawad, head of the agricultural services sector at Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture, made a public statement four days ago denying news that swarms of locusts have caused damage to crops.

Locusts swarms have threatened food security for millennia and have played their part in history -- locusts were one of the 10 plagues brought upon Egypt as retold in the Book of Exodus.
