Spring is off to a furious start for several parts of the country after a blizzard dumped over a foot of snow and tornadoes razed through neighborhoods in the Midwest, as the same storm system moves east and is set to drench the East Coast.

Strong tornadoes are possible near Chicago, while blizzard conditions have been blasting Nebraska and Kansas. Farther south, Oklahoma and Texas are facing critical wildfire danger.

Meteorologists break down the two parts of an intense storm slamming the Midwest with both severe thunderstorms and heavy snow.

The storms rocking the nation come just days after a huge, powerful system slammed across the country, killing more than 40 people.
