A New Jersey man accused of repeatedly stabbing author Salman Rushdie on a New York lecture stage has been convicted of attempted murder.

The decision was reached after the eight day trial of Hadi Matar, who is accused of stabbing the author in 2022 more than a dozen times as he was about to give a lecture in western New York.

Hadi Matar faces up to 25 years in prison for nearly killing the renowned novelist during a stabbing attack in 2022.
