The New York Jets have hired Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn as their head coach, according to NFL Network and ESPN. Glenn, 52, has been the Lions’ defensive coordinator since 2021. He was a cornerback in the NFL for 15 seasons, from 1994 to 2008, mostly with the Jets and the Houston Texans.

The NFC Divisional Round gets under way with the top-seeded Detroit Lions taking on the Washington Commanders, who have finally reached this stage of the playoffs for the first time in nearly 20 years.

The Chicago Bears have already swooped in on a Detroit Lions staffer, and are finalizing a deal to make OC Ben Johson the organization's next head coach.

The 52-year-old hire will replace interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich, formerly the Jets defensive coordinator who stepped into the role after the team fired head coach Robert Saleh in October. Saleh was hired in 2021 and ended with a 20-36 record as the team’s head coach. Ulbrich is set to become the Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator next year.

The Atlanta Falcons are hiring Ulbrich as their new defensive coordinator, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported, per sources informed of the situation. The team announced the hire shortly after the report.

The Detroit Lions went into the playoffs at the No. 1 seed in the NFC and riding high. But on Saturday, the Lions ran into a Washington Commanders team that didn't care how well the Lions were playing and beat them in the divisional round of the playoffs.

To that point, the Commanders went from the worst turnover margin in the league in 2023 (-14) to 15th (+1) in 2024. Similarly, the Houston Texans, who have now made the playoffs two years in a row after finishing 3-13-1 in 2022, jumped from 19th in turnover margin (-1) to eighth in 2023 and 2024 (+10, +9).

The Dallas Cowboys, New York Jets, Chicago Bears, Las Vegas Raiders, New Orleans Saints and Jacksonville Jaguars are in the hunt for new coaches this offseason.
