Supreme Court candidate Brad Schimel has supported Wisconsin’s 1849 abortion law but also says voters should decide abortion questions.

A conservative nonprofit backed by billionaire Trump adviser Elon Musk is getting involved in a race that will determine the political direction of the highest court in one of the country’s most important presidential battleground states.

The funds raised so far by the candidates far set the stage for another record-setting race for the state’s highest court.

A political group tied to Elon Musk is reportedly buying television advertisements in support of conservative Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate Brad Schimel in the upcoming election. The April Wisconsin Supreme Court election could tip the balance of the court,

Schimel, as Wisconsin’s attorney general from 2015 to 2019, defended the state’s strict voter ID law in court and claimed it was a key reason why Trump won Wisconsin in 2016. He also sent Department of Justice staff to monitor the polls in heavily Democratic areas in that election, which Democrats viewed as voter intimidation.

But conservatives say wealthy liberals are also making big donations in the contest between Susan Crawford and Brad Schimel.

The conservative running for an open seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court denied that artificial intelligence was used in an ad, altering the facial expression of his liberal opponent. That accusation is now the focus of a complaint filed with the bi-partisan Wisconsin Ethics Commission.
