The Iron Throne [1] was the throne upon which the King of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men sat, located in the throne room of the Red Keep in the city of King's Landing. Besides the monarchs themselves, only their Hand could sit on the Iron Throne.

The Iron Throne is the seat of the Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and is often used as a metonymic device to refer to the authority of the King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men or to the polity born after Aegon's Conquest.

The 73rd and final episode overall, "The Iron Throne" is the sixth episode of the eighth season, and was written and directed by executive producers and series creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. It first aired on May 19, 2019.

The Iron Throne, in the fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin, is the throne of the monarch of the fictional Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, and serves as a metonym for the monarchy of Westeros as an institution.
