Mar 8, 2008 · I made an ipe handle for an old axe head that I totally reshaped and sold. It was only about a 24" so the shock really didn't feel bad and I loved the added stiffness in feel. Customer is more than satisfied as well.

This is the second handle I’ve ever made and the first is also ipe. Neither of them hurt to swing and there is still flex even though they are thick and made of ipe. Haven’t hand any problems except that they are a bit heavier than hickory.

Nov 12, 2019 · IPE is heavy and has short, cross feathered grain fibres. Not sure it would make a good handle. The reason Hickory, Ash, Oak make good handles is because the grain fibres are long, making it strong.
