So was the Ric Flair promo in the movie completely fictional? Or is there a real one which it adapted? I've looked but haven't been able to find out.

In the wake of David’s death, either Kevin or Kerry would take his place in the Heavyweight Championship match against Ric Flair. As the movie depicts, Kerry won the coin toss, going on to take the belt from Flair.

The Ric Flair match I think is an example of the reverse outcome. Kevin is once again being tested, but he snaps and forces what seemed like an unplanned DQ, hence why Fritz and Kerry are confused about what happened.

He decks the ref and that puts the Iron Claw on Flair and will not let go. It takes David Manning, his brothers Kerry & Mike and his father Fritz to finally convince him to let go before he kills Flair.
